In the year leading up to Bar/Bat Mitzvah, we have a special program for students in their B’nei Mitzvah time. The program aspects are as follows:

  • Yachad – B’nei Mitzvah Family Education: Families will have their final two sessions with Rabbi Callman that focus on the lifecycle event of becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. (2) Sunday mornings, 10:30 – 11:30am.
  • ShalomLearning: There will be regular Sunday sessions, 9:00 – 11:30am that will focus on the value B’tzelem Elohim, created in God’s image. The unit explores how we can honor the image of God in ourselves, recognize it in others and how this concept affects the way we behave in the world.
  • Shabbat mornings: It is important for families to become comfortable with the Shabbat morning worship service at Temple Sinai. Families will be presented with dates and will choose which ones they would like to attend. Following the service, there will be a short question and answer session. Saturday mornings, 10:30am – 12:30pm.

Temple Sinai Teen Academy programming will teach teens how Judaism can be a part of their everyday lives and that Judaism can be connected to their teen and adult lives in various ways.  We teach teens the importance of Jewish pride, exemplifying value, honor and respect for oneself, each other, their community and beyond.

The programming will be rooted in the three key areas:

  1. Jewish education – exploring Jewish history, religion and culture, studying Israel through various lenses
  2. Social action – giving back to our Denver Jewish community, affecting change amongst Jewish teens
  3. Peer-to-peer social engagement – creating a special circle of Jewish friends and understanding the importance of safe and trusted friendships as a teen

The Confirmation class is not only the concluding year of Religious School, it also is one of the most meaningful Jewish experiences for our students. Confirmation is a time to reinforce and celebrate wonderful friendships and to make new friends. It is a time to explore, discuss, debate, and share our feelings about Judaism and the world. The class will be led by Aaron Mendelsberg along with Rabbi Rick Rheins and Rabbi Jordy Callman. Field trips and special guest speakers will help make this year’s class truly unique and exciting. The class will meet approximately three times a month with a combination of dates during the week and on Sundays.
